Grasshopper Kids Site Lead

Grasshopper
San Jose, CA Contractor
POSTED ON 7/26/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/23/2026

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to be the on-site anchor for our Learning Lab pilot at Rocketship Fuerza. Across the school year, nine different Grasshopper teachers will rotate through campus, each leading a three-week series aligned to 4th Grade humanities. Your job is to be the person who knows the school, the students, the materials, and the rhythms — so every rotating Grasshopper teacher walks in prepared to deliver their best.

This role sits at the intersection of teaching, coaching, and program management. You'll be the primary point of contact between GHK teachers and Rocketship staff, the co-planner for students' Tuesday and Thursday independent project work, and the on-site substitute when a teacher can't make it.

What You'll Do

  • Open the classroom at 8:30 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Prepare the space, stage materials, and brief the day's rotating specialist teacher before students arrive.
  • Observe and support the first block of classes (9:15–10:45 AM), assisting the teacher and offering constructive feedback.
  • Co-plan with Rocketship staff during a dedicated block (10:45–11:15 AM) to connect the current Grasshopper series to students' Tuesday and Thursday independent project work.
  • Substitute-teach when needed. If a GHK teacher is out, you step in and teach that day's session. This is a core reliability commitment we make to Rocketship.
  • Support two parent-facing exhibit nights in December and April (4 hours each).
  • Serve as the day-to-day face of Grasshopper at Rocketship Fuerza — building and maintaining the relationship with school leadership and staff.

Weekly Rhythm

  • On-campus (MWF, 8:30–11:30 AM): 9 hours per week
  • Planning per series: ~5 hours once every three weeks (paid separately)
  • Ad hoc substitute days: estimated ~1 day per series
  • Exhibit nights: two evenings, 4 hours each

Compensation Detail

  • On-campus time: $360 per teaching week (9 hours at $40)
  • Planning time: $200 per series (5 hours at $40)
  • Potential Substitute days: $170 per sub day (4.25 hours at $40)
  • Exhibit nights: $160 per event (4 hours at $40)

Who We're Looking For

  • Experienced Grasshopper teacher with a strong track record of positive classroom experiences and student relationships.
  • Warm, reliable presence with kids. Showing up consistently matters more than almost anything else in this role.
  • Strong logistics and materials management skills — comfortable sourcing supplies, tracking receipts, and prepping for a three-week series.
  • Comfortable observing peers and offering supportive, in-the-moment feedback.
  • Excellent communicator with school staff; you'll be co-planning with Rocketship educators weekly.
  • Bay Area based, able to commute to San Jose three days per week.
  • Available for the full school year: August 24, 2026 – May 28, 2027.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with CKLA humanities curriculum or Grade 4 Common Core.
  • Charter school teaching or program-lead experience.
  • Prior instructional coach or mentor role.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
