JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES:
The School Social Worker will utilize evidence-based and nationally recognized instructional practices to interface with the educational process and meet the needs of schools, students, and families in Humboldt County School District while aligning services to meet the educational needs of all students related to Senate Bill (SB) 515. Using a strengths-based and system-wide approach, the School Social Worker will focus on prevention and intervention by facilitating engagement between schools, families, and the community. The Social Worker will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and work collaboratively with other community and state agencies.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify problems in a child’s living situation (home, school, and community) that may affect the child’s adjustment, ability, and attendance in the educational setting.
- Conduct home visits and meet with families regularly.
- Develop and facilitate weekly support groups and provide students with strategies to cope with and overcome difficulties impacting school performance.
- Helps to ensure parents’ understanding of District decisions, policies, and procedures.
- Identify, mobilize, and coordinate school and community resources to enable students to learn as effectively as possibly in the educational setting.
- Contribute knowledge, skills, and techniques in the areas of mental health and human behavior to parents and school team members.
- Develop and implement parent support groups and activities.
- Participate in staff development, training, and clinical supervision as needed and required.
- Serve as a member of a school team and provide information related to planning for the educational needs of children.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Meets all grant requirements.
- Perform other duties related to the position as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Training: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Licensed Clinical Social Work, Social Work, Social Work Intern, Clinical Psychologist, Psychologist Intern with Supervision, Marriage and Family Therapist, Mental Health Counselor, Community Health Works, School-Based Health Centers, or Nurse from an accredited college or university.
Licenses and Certification: Must possess or be able to acquire an eligible license in social or other mental health worker as defined above.
Salary
Salary for this position will be based on HCSD Certified Salary Schedule with 9 extra days on the contract. Total 193 day annual contract. Benefits include; PERS and Health Insurance
