Job Summary:
As a Field Research Intern, you will work closely with the Plant Breeding Team and Research Agronomy Team, to support small plot research trials, evaluate camelina germplasm, and assist with business development initiatives. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in research agronomy while contributing to the advancement of sustainable biofuel crops. Essential Functions:
- Assist in managing small plot research trials, including sprayingand harvesting
- Assist in operations and basic maintenance of small plot equipment (seeders, sprayers, combines)
- Collaborate with research and support teams to ensure efficient resource use and meet business objectives
- Support the plant breeding team with phenotypic notetaking and data entry
- Participate in germplasm evaluation and post-harvest processing
- Assist with office and warehouse duties
- Maintain equipment and fleet vehicles
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate or learn to operate machinery
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented
- “Team player” mindset and willing to contribute to group efforts
- Willingness to travel as needed
- Must possess a valid US driver's license with a clean driving record
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Experience with small plot research trials
- Pesticide Applicators license or ability to obtain
- Knowledge of plant breeding and Northern Great Plains cropping systems
- Experience working with agricultural producers and stakeholders
- FAA part 107 commercial drone pilot license
Education and Experience:
- Pursuing or Recently Graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture or equivalent
- Experience in and/or knowledge of agriculture, agronomy, or plant breeding
- Experience with small plot research trials preferred
Physical Requirements:
- ● Variable work hours including potential overtime and weekends
- Outdoor work involving dust, pollen, travel, and heavy lifting[TW1]
- Typical schedule: 40 hours per week with potential for overtime
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment containing dust and pollen
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time
- Requires frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
