Job Title: Assistant Principal Intern, Secondary School Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Primary Purpose:
Gain experience in an administrative role preparing the leader for an assistant principal position. Assist the school principal in overall administration of campus-level operations so that maximum student learning is accomplished and demonstrated. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree, preferred or in progress
Texas assistant principal or other appropriate Texas certificate, preferred or in progress
Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation & Support System (T-TESS) appraiser, preferred or in progress
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Thorough understanding of school operations
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to coordinate campus support operations
Experience:
Three or more years experience as a classroom teacher
Leadership experience, preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management
- Assist teachers and campus leaders in collaboration that focuses on analyzing what students are expected to learn, rehearsing lessons, and analyzing data.
- Participate in classroom walkthroughs to gather trends to provide focused professional development.
- Provide coaching and feedback to teachers to promote growth
- Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
- Facilitate ARDs and 504 meetings, as assigned.
School/Organizational Climate
- Promote a positive student learning environment and positive staff morale within the district by providing in-class support in the areas of classroom management, positive student reinforcement, motivational strategies, and maintenance of positive student rapport.
- Foster collegiality and team building among staff; encourage their active involvement in the decision process.
- Provide for two-way communication with the principal, staff, students, parents, and community.
- Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance from staff and students; recognize excellence and achievement.
- Facilitate effective and timely resolution of conflicts.
School/Organizational Improvement
- Participate in required reporting and accounting procedures such as textbook management, attendance, inventory, etc.
- Assist in the planning and preparation of the school budget.
- Assist in planning and conducting fire and disaster drills.
- Orient and monitor the work of substitutes.
- Implement policies contained within the current policy handbook adopted by the GCISD Board of Trustees
- Assist teachers with goal setting to monitor student growth.
Personnel Management
- Develop an agenda and conduct faculty meetings, as requested by the principal.
- Assist teachers as needed in classroom instruction by providing coaching and feedback
- Assist the principal in teacher assessment to determine staff development needs.
- Assist in the selection interview process of campus staff.
- Assist with the mentoring process of new hires at campus level as assigned by the Principal
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
- Coordinate routine maintenance requests and needs.
- Conduct a building inventory as requested.
- Assist in planning and coordinating the energy conservation activities.
Student Management
- Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
- Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
- Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with appropriate staff on follow-up and improvement efforts.
- Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
- Supervise after-school activities, games, and performances, as assigned by the campus principal.
School/Community Relations
- Participate in public relations activities for the school.
- Assist the principal in creating positive home-school communication.
- Assist the principal in the administration and coordination of the parent volunteer program.
Professional Growth and Development
- Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.
- Take the initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignments to include the latest research and development in educational methodology.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Serve on district committees/special projects, i.e., grant writing, as assigned by the Superintendent or his designee.
- Perform such other duties and responsibilities as assigned, or as may be necessary for job effectiveness
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Share supervisory and evaluation responsibilities for professional and other staff as assigned by the principal. Supervise teachers, day custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned.
