Position Summary:
The School Counselor supports the mission of our school by assisting and equipping students to embrace Biblical truth, strive for academic excellence, and model Christ-like leadership to influence their homes, churches and communities for Christ. This position plays a crucial role to help foster the emotional, social, spiritual and academic well-being of each student. The Coordinator will work collaboratively with teachers and parents, and be a trusted advocate for student well-being. The School Counselor will report to the Counseling Director.
Status: Part-Time (10 month employee), 20 hours/week
Schedule: Tuesday-Thursday 8:00-3:30
Responsibilities:
- Seeks to model in speech, actions, and attitude, a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ.
- Observe the Matthew 18 principle in conflict resolution. Avoid a negative, critical spirit.
- Maintain absolute confidence of all privileged or sensitive information, keeping counseling records separate from the student’s academic records.
- Regularly works with Elementary students (Pre-K through 5th grade) with the potential to support Junior High students on occasion.
- Develop and conduct classroom social emotional learning lessons that align with Grapevine Faith’s Biblical worldview of student competencies and expectations in the areas of developing self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
- Provide short-term, solution-focused individual and/or group counseling to students to support emotional, behavioral, academic, and social development.
- Refer families to outside resources when appropriate and maintain a network of Christian counseling professionals.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to develop action plans and interventions for students’ needs.
- Support crisis intervention and respond appropriately to student concerns.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
- Participate in faculty meetings and contribute to the school’s spiritual and community life.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the American School Counselor Association Comprehensive (ASCA) Counseling Program and Texas School Counseling models.
- Responsible for a professional growth plan that will maintain licensure and stay current with most effective practices and procedures.
- Maintain and uphold the religious standards of Faith Christian School to include the Lifestyle Statement, Staff Covenant and Statement of Faith.
- Responsible to disciple, instruct and actively pray for the students on our campus.
- Responsible to reinforce a Biblical Worldview in every workplace interaction with both students, staff and faculty.
- Other duties as assigned that are closely related to this position.
Qualifications:
- Must possess and model a personal authentic relationship with Jesus Christ and be a member of a Bible believing church.
- Must have a high level of discernment and wisdom and the ability to manage confidential information and meet deadlines.
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
- Valid state licensure as LPC or LCSW (or Associate under supervision) in the state of Texas and/or Texas School Counselor Certification
- School counseling certification, preferred.
- Experience in Christian education or ministry setting.
- At least 2 years of experience working with elementary-aged children in a counseling or educational setting, preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create a safe, warm, and nurturing environment for students.
- Skilled in conflict resolution and restorative practices.
- Uses acceptable English in written and oral communication. Speaks with clear articulation.
- Ability to integrate Biblical truth into all counseling matters.
- Must maintain appropriate boundaries with students and their families following the ACA Code of Ethics.
