Job Summary
Reports to Facilities Maintenance Director. An employee in this class performs unskilled and semi-skilled work in the cleaning and maintenance of County facilities. Ensure buildings, grounds, and equipment operate safely and efficiently by performing repairs, preventive maintenance, and cleaning. Courtesy is required in contacts with the public and other departments. The worker is subject to hazards in the work including exposure to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, and loud noise, working in high places and narrow areas.

Essential Duties
- Assists in repair work of plumbing, lighting, electrical, and HVAC as needed.
- Ability to use electronic work order system to receive, record and complete work orders.
- Performs walk through of the facility grounds and interior of buildings, making notes of needed repairs and reporting on electronic work order system.
- Ability to operate outdoor equipment; push mower, blower, trimmer, hedge trimmer, etc.
- Operates county vehicle; perform monthly inspection of assigned vehicle and always keep assigned vehicle clean and presentable.
- Daily/weekly trash pick-up and inspection on cigarette ash stands throughout facilities in town.
- Run mail daily between internal departments. Scan mail and deliver to post office.
- Responsible for janitorial supply inventory. Keeping stock filled at assigned locations and reporting when stock is getting low.
- Moves and sets up furniture, equipment and supplies.
- Keep flat roofs clean and roof drains open monthly, using a blower to keep roof clean.
- Exterior painting of bollards, hydrants, handrails, etc.
- Pressure washing of exterior surfaces to include sidewalks, patios, curbing and building structures.
- Participate in delivery and setting up of elections equipment, sometimes outside of normal working hours.
- Participate in snow removal after a snow event, sometimes outside of normal working hours.
- Participate in the County's safety program and procedures.
- Performs all work in accordance with OSHA and County safety standards and regulations.
- Responds to citizens’ questions while working on projects providing clear information on the project and/or referring the person to the appropriate resource within the County.
- Performs related duties as required.
- No on-call schedule is required for this role; however, assigned individual may be asked to work late, come in early or weekend work to complete tasks, help with events, or oversee work to be completed by others, typically scheduled in advance.
Knowledge and Skills
- Working knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial and minor repair work.
- Working knowledge of materials and equipment used in grounds maintenance work.
- Working knowledge of safety regulations, occupational hazards and related safety precautions in the work.
- Skill in the use and care of assigned tools and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to deal tactfully, courteously, and firmly with the public.
- Ability to exercise judgment and initiative.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other County employees.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
