3-5 Interventionist - Title 1

Position Summary

The Academic Interventionist is a specialized instructional role responsible for providing highly targeted, short-term, small-group, and individualized instruction to students identified as needing academic support through the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. The Interventionist is critical in identifying specific student deficits, implementing research-based strategies, and systematically monitoring progress to accelerate learning and close achievement gaps.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Delivery and Expertise

• Targeted Instruction: Design, plan, and deliver high-leverage intervention lessons focused on foundational skills in the assigned subject area (e.g., literacy, numeracy, or executive function skills).

• Fidelity to Program: Implement designated, evidence-based intervention programs with high fidelity, ensuring adherence to program protocols and dosage requirements.

• Differentiation: Adapt and modify instructional strategies and materials based on diagnostic data and student needs to ensure access and mastery of skills.

• Modeling: Collaborate with and occasionally model effective instructional techniques for core classroom teachers to ensure the continuity of learning strategies.

Assessment, Data Analysis, and Documentation

• Diagnostic Assessment: Administer and interpret specialized diagnostic assessments to accurately identify specific student skill deficits and root causes of academic struggles.

• Progress Monitoring: Collect, graph, and analyze weekly progress monitoring data to evaluate intervention effectiveness and determine when instructional adjustments or changes in tier level are necessary.

• Data Management: Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of all intervention services, including student rosters, schedules, lesson plans, progress notes, and communication logs.

• Collaborative Review: Actively participate in grade-level team meetings (PLCs/MTSS team) to present student data, contribute to data-driven decision-making, and consult on Tier 1 and Tier 2 core instruction planning.

Collaboration and Professionalism

• Core-to-Intervention Link: Work closely with classroom teachers to ensure alignment between the intervention strategies and the core curriculum, promoting generalization of skills.

• Communication: Communicate student goals, progress, and at-home strategies clearly and consistently with parents/guardians.

• Professional Growth: Remain current on research, trends, and effective practices in academic intervention, data analysis, and the MTSS framework.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field required

• Certification: Valid state teaching certification required

• Experience: Over ten years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably within the grade levels served by the position

• Skills: Demonstrated ability to collect, organize, and interpret academic data to inform instruction

• Knowledge: Expertise in implementing the MTSS/RTI model and utilizing various diagnostic assessment tools.
