Overview:
Grantsville City is seeking a dependable and safety-focused individual to serve as a Crossing Guard. This seasonal position helps children cross streets safely before and after school and supports a secure school-zone environment for students, families, and motorists.
Under the general supervision of the Police Chief, the Crossing Guard prepares the assigned crossing zone, monitors traffic conditions, and assists children across the street using established safety procedures and traffic-control equipment.
Requirements:Key Responsibilities:
Prepares the school crossing zone by activating the 20 MPH flashing lights and placing warning cones as assigned.
Monitors traffic flow, vehicle speed, and direction of travel to determine when children may cross safely.
Uses a hand-held stop sign, whistle, safety vest, and other approved equipment to alert motorists and control the crossing area.
Assists children in crossing the street safely before and after school and stops approaching traffic when necessary.
Removes cones and turns off flashing lights after the crossing period is complete.
Maintains regular and prompt attendance and reports safety concerns, equipment problems, or unusual incidents to the supervisor.
Provides courteous and professional service to children, parents, school personnel, motorists, and the public.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic Utah traffic laws, school-zone safety practices, and emergency procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Valid Utah driver license.
Must successfully complete a criminal background investigation and drug screening.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Work is performed outdoors and may involve exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, traffic, noise, and other environmental or physical hazards.

Constant visual and auditory attention is required to monitor children and traffic conditions.
