Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures with precision and care.
- Perform animal restraint and handling using proper techniques to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Conduct laboratory tests including blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostic procedures to aid in accurate diagnoses.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection and ensure a sterile environment.
- Manage dental procedures by understanding dental terminology, assisting with cleanings, extractions, and oral health assessments.
- Support animal husbandry duties such as feeding, bathing, grooming, and monitoring daily pet care routines.
- Operate radiology equipment to capture X-ray images while adhering to safety protocols; interpret basic imaging results when necessary.
- Assist with animal catheterization, sample collection, and other critical care procedures involving animal physiology and anatomy knowledge.
- Handle diverse species including dogs, cats, horses (equine experience preferred), ensuring proper animal handling techniques are followed at all times.
- Maintain detailed medical records, update patient charts accurately, and document all treatments performed.
Experience
- Proven veterinary technician experience with a strong foundation in veterinary terminology and animal anatomy.
- Kennel experience or background working in animal shelters or boarding facilities is highly valued.
- Hands-on veterinary critical care experience demonstrating ability to assist in emergency situations effectively.
- Laboratory experience including sample processing and diagnostic testing procedures.
- Familiarity with equine handling or experience working with large animals is a plus.
- Skilled in dog training, pet grooming, and pet care routines that promote animal comfort and well-being.
- Knowledge of veterinary procedures such as animal catheterization, restraint techniques, X-ray operation, and aseptic techniques.
