Job Summary

Special Education Curriculum Coordinators are responsible for supporting students, and teachers of students with mild/moderate disabilities in the subject areas of English Language Arts (ELA) and/or Mathematics in various special education settings throughout the district. Curriculum Coordinators will split their time between the district office, coaching special education teachers, and actively teaching special education groups/classes at an assigned Granite school. GSD is looking for up to 4 Curriculum Coordinators to specialize in Elementary ELA, Elementary Math, Secondary ELA, and Secondary Math.

Essential Functions

  • Organize professional development for special education teachers.
  • Provide coaching to special education teachers on district-approved ELA and mathematics curriculum and assessment measures.
  • Provide coaching to special education teachers on developing Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs) and how to conduct meetings.
  • Provide ideas for data collection and progress monitoring on IEP literacy and mathematics goals.
  • Teach Special Education students in small groups (elementary) or classes (secondary) as assigned by Special Education Department Leadership - Up to half-time.
  • Participate in district level Professional Learning Committees (PLCs) and committee meetings in collaboration with general education and other district level committees.

  • Excellent understanding of the IDEA, USBE Special Education Rules and LRBI manual, and Granite School District policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Utah Core Standards and Proficiency Based Learning.
  • Knowledge of Granite School District approved curriculum tools, materials, and instructional framework.
  • Expertise with the use of technology to enhance student learning.
  • Expertise in lesson design for students with disabilities.
  • Works independently with little direct supervision.
  • Works as part of a team.
  • Accepts responsibility and is self-motivated.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative, positive relationships.
  • Ability to work successfully with all stakeholders in a coaching situation.
  • Display effective multi-tasking and time management skills.

Required Education, Training And Qualifications

  • Requires one of the following:
    • a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a Special Education License Area of Concentration; or
    • an equivalent license in another state or country.
A copy of the applicant's educator license must be included with the application in order to be considered

Required Prior Experience

  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a licensed special education position.

  • Interacts and collaborates with employees, board members, patrons, vendors, administrators and secretaries in schools.

Working Environment

  • Work takes place in a typical office and school environment.
  • Work will require the ability to independently travel between the district office, schools, meetings, etc.
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
