What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal position at Granite School District?
Job Summary
The Paralegal will assist Granite District’s legal counsel, the Director of Policy and Legal Services, by providing support related to compliance, contracts, District policies, and other support as needed. The Paralegal will oversee compliance with online training and reporting for educators and educational support staff using the District’s learning management system (Vector Training), oversee legislative tracking, and state assurances. The Legal Assistant will draft and assist development and implementation of District policies. The Legal Assistant will also assist in reviewing and drafting agreements and will oversee contract management.
Essential Functions
- Applicant must become familiar with District polices, state and federal laws, and state and federal regulations governing schools and District employees.
- Applicant shall work closely with all District and school administrators to create, maintain, and update training materials in various multimedia platforms, which, depending on skill level, may include creating scripts and developing multimedia presentations.
- Applicant shall document and track trainings to demonstrate compliance with training requirements and other compliance mandates found in federal and state laws and regulations.
- Applicant must be proficient in understanding complex concepts, legal requirements, and policies and communicating ideas in simple and clear presentation.
- Applicant will research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources related to education and provide analysis.
- Applicant must be able to draft and review District policies, present polices in the Board’s Law and Policy Committee, update and maintain policies in an organized and accessible framework that supports the District’s purposes.
- Applicant must be able to draft and review legal documents including contracts.
- Applicant will manage contracts using the District’s contract management system.
- Applicant must be able to interview employees and provide support in employee investigations.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Required Prior Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field
- or associate degree in Paralegal Studies (or related field) with at least five years of related paralegal work experience
- Related paralegal work experience in one of the following areas preferred: education, public administration, public policy, regulatory compliance, human resources
