Job Summary:  


Perform skilled mechanical repair and preventive maintenance work on District vehicle fleet and equipment, including welding and fabrication. Provide assistance with Building Maintenance. Assist in the training of related job duties and safety procedures to the Fleet Maintenance I position. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 



  1.  Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical issues on District light and heavy-duty trucks and a variety of construction equipment. Perform preventative maintenance services and multi-point inspections, tire rotation and replacement, supervise Fleet Maintenance I during pm services, tire rotations, etc.

  2.  Assist with building maintenance activities including HVAC, car wash, and other mechanical and electrical equipment. Perform monthly inspections on the District underground storage tank (fuel).

  3.  Assist in locating vehicle parts, pricing and qualified outside vendors

  4.  Track vehicle maintenance/repairs and inventory in work order and parts software

  5.  Assist other divisions within the District with training on fleet maintenance, projects and provide fabrication of different types of materials to support the District needs. 

  6.  Assist in the planning of new District vehicles including lease vehicles and the sale of old vehicles on Public Surplus.

  7.  Must be able to respond to emergencies as needed, including after hours.

  8.  Various other duties as assigned.


General Qualification Requirements                                 


Prior Work Experience:   At least two years of mechanic (diesel or general) prior experience.


Education and Training:   High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional technical or specialized training in vehicle maintenance (including vactors), ASE (A1-A8) and metal fabrication/welding is preferred.


Licenses, Certifications, Etc.:



  1. Valid Utah driver's license Class B with tanker and air brakes endorsement is required or ability to obtain within 90 days. Hazardous-material endorsement required or must be obtained within 90 days.

  2. UST AB Operator is required or ability to obtain within 90 days.

  3. Utah State Vehicle Inspection license for Heavy-Duty Trucks required or ability to obtain within 6 months.

    4. The employee must lift weight or exert force as follows:




                           i.  Regularly:      1 to 25 pounds


                          ii.  Frequently:    26 to 50 pounds


                         iii.  Occasionally:  51 to 100 pounds


                         iv.  Rarely:            101 to 150 pounds


                  5.  Specific vision abilities include: Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less.  Ability to judge distance and space relationships. Ability to distinguish colors.  Ability to use     peripheral vision


Occasionally required to perform duties outdoors in all types of weather including extreme heat and cold.
