POSITION SUMMARY

GENERAL SUMMARY

Performs manual and machine operator tasks in the setup, maintenance, and operation of a web printing press.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Operates or directs operation of four-color web printing press to print in accordance with job tickets.
• Reads instructions from job ticket and sets up or directs setup of press-based instructions. Prepares press for each new job by hanging plates, ensuring the proper size paper are on the press, cleaning press, filling solvent bottles, lubricating, changing, and adjusting rollers, and webbing the press.
• Makes job ready by running samples to adjust print quality, registrations, and color settings. Checks all print jobs against a job specific checklist provided by shift supervisors or customer service.
• Directs and supervises press crew. Keeps work area clean and unobstructed.
• Makes final pre-run inspection of job and confers with supervisor for approval. Responsible for maintaining quality of printed work throughout the entire print job.
• Lifts and moves paper rolls onto the press in absence of press helper.
• Performs preventative maintenance such as lubrication, replacement of parts, cleaning and adjusting the rollers and other moving parts while performing duties to safety standards, training, and expectations.
• Operates or assists on other pressroom equipment and presses if needed and when workload permits.
• Complies with safety standards and regulations required by OSHA/MiOSHA.
• Operates skid jack to move skids to shipping department, as necessary.
• Responsible for double checking job tickets to ensure that print jobs are properly prepared for bindery.
• Logs activity of press and crew in the costing system.
• Expected to correct all timecard errors via Paycom.
• Performs other tasks as requested.

EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING REQUIRED OR PREFERRED

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year web press operator experience.
• Combination of education and experience.
• 3-5 years web offset printing experience.
• Completion of GAFT Web Offset Press Operator Training program.
• Powered Industrial Truck training for Forklift and Load Hog use.
