Chief Engineers – Grande Denali Lodge & Denali Bluffs Hotel

Year-Round | Denali, Alaska

Live. Work. Play. Denali National Park.

Want a career where your office comes with mountain views?

We’re hiring two experienced, hands-on Chief Engineers, one for Grande Denali Lodge and one for Denali Bluffs Hotel. Each Chief Engineer will lead maintenance and engineering operations at their assigned property.

These are year-round positions for people who enjoy solving problems, working independently, leading a team, and keeping a seasonal hotel operating at its best.

We’re looking for true jacks-of-all-trades. You don’t have to be a master of every trade, but you should know your way around building systems, be willing to get your hands dirty, and recognize when it’s time to bring in a specialist.

Compensation

  • $85,000–$95,000 annually per position, depending on experience
  • Annual bonus opportunity
  • Free employee housing

What You’ll Do

As Chief Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the overall maintenance and physical condition of your assigned hotel and its supporting facilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee daily maintenance and engineering operations.
  • Perform and supervise general plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, painting, appliance, and equipment repairs.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and building-system problems.
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs.
  • Prepare the property for seasonal opening and winterization.
  • Maintain guest rooms, public areas, employee housing, and back-of-house facilities.
  • Coordinate outside contractors and specialty vendors when needed.
  • Maintain inventories of tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.
  • Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and capital improvement projects.
  • Ensure maintenance work is completed safely and according to applicable codes and standards.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations when required.
  • Train, supervise, and develop seasonal maintenance team members.
  • Work closely with property leadership to protect the property and improve the guest and employee experience.

Who We’re Looking For

You’re the person people call when something stops working.

You don’t need to be a licensed electrician, master plumber, HVAC technician, and carpenter all rolled into one, but you should be comfortable troubleshooting across those areas and coordinating qualified specialists when needed.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Strong general maintenance and building-systems experience.
  • Experience in hotel, resort, commercial property, or facilities maintenance preferred.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to pick up the tools and get the job done.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to live and work in a remote Alaska environment.

Experience with seasonal properties, winterization, generators, boilers, commercial kitchens, or remote facilities is a plus.

Why Denali?

This isn’t your typical hotel engineering job.

You’ll live and work just outside Denali National Park, surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in Alaska.

And because we believe year-round careers should still leave room to enjoy life, each position includes approximately two months off annually.

Benefits

  • Free employee housing
  • Year-round employment
  • Approximately two months off annually
  • $85,000–$95,000 annual salary, depending on experience
  • Annual bonus opportunity
  • Healthcare benefits
  • HSA and FSA programs
  • 401(k) program
  • Hotel and travel benefits
  • Employee discounts
  • Opportunity to live and work in one of Alaska’s most iconic destinations

If you’re a problem solver, enjoy working with your hands, and like the idea of trading traffic jams for mountains, wildlife, and Alaska adventure, we’d like to hear from you.

Apply for Grande Denali Lodge, Denali Bluffs Hotel, or consideration for either opening. Please indicate your preference when applying.

Come live, work, and play in Denali.
