What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hall Director position at GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY?
General Purpose of Job:
The Hall Director position is year-round at 30 hours per week. Included in the compensation package is an on-campus apartment and meal plan.
Responsible to the Director of Residential Life for administering and managing student/community development, program/activity assignments, student life/institutional support, residence hall leadership, and supervising staff.
Essential Functions of Job:
- Create, administer, and deliver programs, activities, and services to meet needs of students within various residence hall environments. Develop, facilitate and support education and social programming. Promote supportive student residence environment.
- Recruit, select, train, and evaluate resident assistants. Meet regularly with staff on various issues and promote cohesiveness.
- Advise and counsel students in areas of academic success, personal issues, and college life. Refer students to appropriate college resources and services.
- Oversee judicial matters in building/s by investigating incidents and meeting with students.
- Provide necessary support in residence hall. Mediate resident disputes.
- Oversee building facilities to include maintaining building availability hours, opening/closing buildings, etc. Maintain hall disciplinary records. Organize and track paperwork associated with managing the hall such as check in/out forms, room changes, key distribution, etc.
- Attend Student Life All Staff meetings. Meet with Director of Residence Life as required.
- Collaborate with other student life staff on various student issues.
- Establish positive working relationships with maintenance staff, security, faculty, and university support staff.
- Participate in campus-wide activities, programs, and on-call emergency response rotation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Collaborate with other Hall Directors in developing and overseeing Intramural activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:

- This is a live-in position. Occupancy of the apartment is for the term of appointment. Check-in and check-out of the apartment should be arranged with the Director of Residence Life. In accordance with the department’s pet policy, pets must be approved in writing by the Director of Residence Life, prior to pet residing in Grand View housing.
- The Hall Director summer duty coverage will consist of but not limited to: tasks associated with conferences; summer transitions and cleaning; staff recruitment and other summer work in the Student Life Office; regular availability and supervision in the building when it is occupied; other duties as assigned.
- The Hall Director must abide by the rules and regulations of the University and model mutual respect and inclusion for all residents.

Qualifications:- Live-in position – housing and meal plan included in compensation.
- May not be employed on the Grand View University campus in any other area of the institution.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Prior residence life experience preferred.
