Responsibilities
The Ultrasound Sonographer, Full-time On Call performs imaging utilizing the appropriate equipment for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment planning for patient care. The Ultrasound Sonographer demonstrates competency in all skills necessary to care for all types of patients. Performs all types of Ultrasound procedures involving Emergency Room Patients, surgical patients, inpatients and outpatients. Good technical and communication skills required. Ability to work with all levels from staff to physicians. Ability to triage quickly in a fast paced work environment. Radiology Department experience helpful and a minimum of two years of Ultrasound scanning experience in the area of abdominal, OB-GYN, small parts and some experience in vascular sonography preferred. Opportunities to train in Breast and Vascular.
Essential Functions:
- Possesses current knowledge of imaging technology and provides quality patient care services.
- Selects appropriate equipment and supplies needed to perform each procedure.
- Reviews the daily patient schedule to maximize efficiency and minimize patient waiting time.
- Selects proper technical factors according to established protocol and study requested to produce quality images.
- Positions the patient according to established protocol to provide optimum diagnostic information.
- Assists radiologists and staff physicians as requested to promote continuity of care.
- Performs quality control on all completed studies prior to radiologist interpretation to assure optimum information and verify all studies in PACS.
- Ensures equipment viability through performing established warm up procedure and equipment quality control.
- Calibrates equipment and performs required quality control procedures daily to assure equipment viability.
- Communicate procedural instructions to all patients prior to examination to assure patient comprehension.
- Practices proper infection control. Cleans each study room and makes ready for the next patient.
- Ensure Ultrasound rooms are re-stocked daily at the end of the shift with all supplies.
Schedule: Sunday-Thursday On-call only, 11:00 pm - 7:30 am. No weekends or Holiday rotation.This position will cover weekday overnight ER and support inpatient stat orders.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:Vocational diploma from an ultrasound program, required Associate's Degree from an ultrasound program And Over 1 year year of experience with abdomn imaging/vascular imaging/breast imaging, preferred.
1 year of experience, required for on call roleLicenses and Certifications:Medical Sonographer – Certified ARDMS, Upon hire, required within 90 days Basic Life Support (BLS), Upon hire, required
RVT certified preferred.
