Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse on the ICU assumes the accountability and responsibility as a professional nurse for providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care for an assigned group of patients including ICU and Critical Care Stepdown. The RN is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The Registered Nurse functions as a health team member through independent, interdependent and dependent roles within the health care system. Serving as the patient's advocate, the RN assumes responsibility and accountability for nursing care for patients of various ages as defined by the department scope of service.
Registered Nurse Job Responsibilities:
- Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
- Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
- Implements policies, procedure, and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties.
- Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
- Displays professional commitment and supports the unit team by promoting unity and teamwork among coworkers by maintaining a positive attitude and positive working relationships.
- Fosters a healing environment for patients and families
- Assumes responsibility and authority for establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and creating an individualized plan of care, and evaluates patient's response and intervenes to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Integrates clinical reasoning and knowledge as the foundation for decision-making
- Balances patient's rights and organization's responsibilities in providing professional and ethical care
Grand View Health’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 26 bed unit that provides comprehensive Intensive Care and Crticial Care Stepdown care for patients with complex health problems. The unit also cares for seriously ill or injured patients who require close observation and constant care.
Schedule: 3 nights week, 7:00 pm - 7:30 am, every third weekend and every other holiday.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Vocational diploma in Nursing And Over 6 months to 1 year as an acute care Registered Nurse required OrAssociate's Degree in Nursing And Over 6 months to 1 year as an acute care Registered Nurse required BSN preferred Critical Care Course preferred Over 6 months to 1 year Critical Care Experience preferred.Licenses and Certifications:Registered Nurse in PA, requiredBasic Life Support (BLS), required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), required
AACN's Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO), required within 1 year
PA Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum, required within 1 year
NIH Stroke Certification, preferred
