Responsibilities
The Lead Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the supervision of operations during the reprocessing of all sterile and non-sterile materials/supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgery and other hospital units.
Essential Functions of the Lead Sterile Processing Technician:
- Monitors daily operations of and assume responsibility for assigned shift in the SPD Department.
- Independently run the department on off-shifts and weekends or in the absence of the manager.
- Coordinates staffing, equipment, instrument, and supply resources to ensure effective and efficient department workflow between and within shifts.
- Create schedules and coordinate daily assignments of Central Service Technicians ensuring the duties of all assignments are accounted for and that technicians are rotated according to department needs, training, and competency requirements.
- Acts as a liaison between SPD and OR, coordinating SPD/OR projects and effectively communicating with the Surgical Supply Coordinator
- Assists in reduction of supply and instrument costs.
- responsible for manual cleaning and decontamination; operating the mechanical washers and sonic units; testing autoclaves for efficiency and maintaining compliance records.
- Responsible for coordinating SPD/OR projects and effectively communicating with the Surgical Supply Coordinator.
- In charge of the recall process as needed.
- As a Lead Sterile Processing Technician, the lead technician will also assist in the education training and evaluation process of other staff (e.g., new hires) with respect to quality assurance, performance improvement, and departmental compliance.
- Adheres to best practice by following all regulatory, federal, and state guidelines. AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission
Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:00 am-3:30 pm plus on call responsibilities
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3-5 years of experience as Sterile Processing Technician
Licenses and Certifications:
HSPA CRCST certification required, upon hire, required
Skills and Abilities:
- Quickly troubleshoots and resolves problems, required
- Possesses strong technical aptitude, required
- Possesses familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), required
- Competency in the use of a variety of computer hardware and software systems, required
