Grand Traverse County is seeking a Sewer & Water Operator to join our Department of Public Works team. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems, operating equipment, and seeing the direct impact of their work every day.

Whether you're locating underground utilities, repairing water mains, maintaining sewer systems, inspecting infrastructure, or responding to emergencies, you'll play a vital role in delivering safe drinking water and reliable sewer services to thousands of residents and businesses throughout our community.

What You'll Do

• Maintain and repair water distribution and sewer collection systems
• Locate underground utilities and assist with infrastructure projects
• Install, service, and test water meters and service connections
• Inspect, clean, and maintain sewer lines, pump stations, hydrants, valves, and manholes
• Operate specialized equipment and tools in the field
• Respond to emergency service calls and system issues as needed
• Work closely with contractors, customers, and fellow team members to ensure safe and reliable utility operations

What You'll Need

• High school diploma or GED
• Interest in public works, utilities, construction, maintenance, or skilled trades
• Ability to perform physical work in various weather conditions
• Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to safety
• Valid driver's license (CDL required within established timelines after hire)
