What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Special Education Teacher position at Grand Traverse Academy?
We are expanding our team! Grand Traverse Academy is accepting applications for a K-12 special education teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Interested individuals should:
- Hold a Bachelor's degree minimum
- Possess the appropriate Michigan Teaching Certification for the position
- Have knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of special education and specialty areas and be familiar with the principles and methodology of effectively teaching students with disabilities
- Have knowledge of school rules, regulations and procedures and the ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior
- Have a passion for building relationships with students and their families
- Be enthusiastic about ther content area
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills
- Preferably have experience at all grade levels
Responsibilities include:
- Planning curriculum and preparing lesson plans and other instructional materials to meet the individual needs of students, considering such factors as physical, emotional, and educational levels of development
- The successful candidate must also be able to relate positively with students and build strong relationships with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers and various other teaching professionals to develop individual educational plans for students.
This is a full-time position which includes salary, health insurance contribution, paid time off and a 401(k) plan with employer contribution.
