Base Area Attendant (Part-Time, Seasonal) - Winter 26/27

SUMMARY

The Base Area Attendant helps create a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained first impression for guests throughout the resort’s base area. This hands-on outdoor position keeps the Plaza and surrounding public spaces clean and inviting, supports snow removal and sanding efforts, maintains firepits and firewood, and assists with parking, recycling, and other base area needs as conditions change throughout the day. Base Area Attendants are highly visible members of the resort team and regularly assist guests with directions, resort information, and general questions. A key part of every employee's job is to serve as a Targhee ambassador, engaging the guest at every opportunity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

1. Maintain the Plaza and surrounding outdoor guest areas, including keeping seating areas orderly and removing garbage, spills, and other debris.
2. Build, monitor, and maintain Plaza firepits during peak visitation periods and weekends, ensuring fires and surrounding areas are maintained safely.
3. Stock, stack, and maintain an adequate supply of firewood in designated base area locations.
4. Support the Recycling team with garbage and recycling removal from the Plaza and assist with sorting recyclable materials as needed.
5.  Assist the Parking team during busy periods and help maintain a safe, organized, and accessible guest drop-off area.
6. Help maintain safe access to base area walkways and resort outlets by supporting snow removal and sanding efforts, including working alongside the shovel team as conditions require.
7. Identify and promptly report facility or operational concerns, including fire, flooding, power outages, unsafe conditions, or other issues requiring immediate attention from Facilities Management.
8. Support Base Operations/Security by remaining aware of activity in the base area and promptly reporting suspicious behavior, unauthorized activity, or other security concerns.
9. Remain alert for the unauthorized removal or misuse of company property and report concerns through the appropriate channels.
10. Provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance to guests by answering questions, giving directions, and helping guests locate resort services, activities, and amenities.
11. Participate in required resort and departmental training programs, meetings, and activities as directed by the supervisor.
12. Work collaboratively with Facilities, Guest Services, Parking, Recycling, Security, and other resort departments to respond to changing operational and guest needs.
13. Maintain a positive, professional, and helpful presence while interacting with guests and coworkers.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY:

1. Protect the safety of self, workers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests.
2. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
3. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor.
4. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Resort’s Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department-specific procedures or manuals.
5. Operate equipment safely so that it will not lead to injury to yourself or others.
6. Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK SCHEDULE 

Due to the nature of the recreation industry, Grand Targhee Resort operates seven days a week, including weekends and holidays, and there is no guarantee of hours. The Base Area Attendant must be available for a flexible schedule based on business levels, weather conditions, and special events.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in facilities, custodial work, outdoor operations, guest service, or a similar hands-on environment is helpful but not required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have current Driver’s License.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team during busy periods and changing operational needs.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to accurately read and make measurements.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and understand safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance information, schedules, and department procedures. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests and coworkers, provide basic directions and resort information, ask questions when clarification is needed, and share safety or operational concerns with supervisors.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.  

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to recognize and solve practical, day-to-day problems in a busy resort environment. Employees should be able to assess changing conditions, identify when something requires immediate attention, and determine when to address an issue independently or involve a supervisor or another department. Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
