Summer LOOP Academic Lead Teacher


Department: Community and Scholar Affairs Unit: Summer

Wage: Certified $60.00/hour; Uncertified $20.00/hour
Program Dates: 6/8/26 - 7/23/26 (No School 6/18/26)

Schedule: 5 hours per day/20 hours per week (7:30AM-12:30PM)

Direct Supervisor: Director of Office of Extended Learning


JOB SUMMARY

Manage and oversee the Academic LOOP program reporting and document requirements for LOOP academic teachers.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Manage the academic program staff program reporting requirements.
  • Schedule, arrange, and facilitate meetings with, site coordinator and school principal.
  • Serve as liaison between site coordinator, school principal, building school day staff, and LOOP academic staff.
  • Collect and submit academic lesson plans, in a timely manner, for academic sessions and academic enrichment sessions to Office of Extended Learning.
  • Collect and submit summer school class attendance, in a timely manner, to the LOOP Site Coordinator weekly.
  • Collect and submit summer LOOP academic staff attendance, time, and effort logs, in a timely manner, to OEL bi-weekly with payroll.
  • Attend MANDATORY scheduled Lead Teacher meetings and trainings.
  • Attend professional development opportunities as required and/or offered.
  • Report absences to OEL Director in advance (if known).
  • Display physical, social, mental, and emotional soundness to execute the duties of job.
  • Serve as a role model for all scholars and within school community.
  • Interact with co-workers, administration, scholars, parents, and the community in positive, supportive, and cooperative ways.
  • Encourage the team spirit and contribute as a team member in the decision-making processes of the school as facilitated by the building administrator.
  • Maintain and promote school district goals and objectives.
  • Comply with state, federal and District policies, procedures, rules, and the union contract.
  • Consistently demonstrate dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher education.
  • Current Michigan teaching certificate.
  • Have previously met, as an elementary or middle summer schoolteacher, LARA (PA116) mandated requirements:
    • Comprehensive Childcare Background Check (CCBC) including fingerprinting by LARA approved agencies (no cost to applicant).
    • Obtain CCBC eligibility to work in a licensed childcare facility.
    • Complete MiRegistry Health and Safety Online Course 1 and Health and Safety Online Course 2 and/or Michigan Ongoing Health and Safety Refresher Training Course(s); submit learning record transcript to Office of Extended Learning upon completion of MiRegistry Health and Safety Courses or refresher course trainings.
    • Obtain within 90 days of hire, First Aid Certification and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation by LARA approved agencies; submit ARC/AHA certificate/card to Office of Extended Learning upon completion.
    • Negative TB Test: Verification of TB status is required.
    • Child Abuse/Neglect Central Registry Check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • College degree and teaching certificate preferred or,
  • In lieu of a Teaching Certificate, candidate must have valid State of Michigan substitute teaching permit.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish for Cultural Centers.
  • Teaching or tutoring experience in urban setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated understanding of current research as to how scholars learn and the ability to motivate scholar to perform at their best.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an economically, culturally, and racially diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction, by using a variety of styles, and inspire mixed culture and ability classes by creating challenging and engaging learning opportunities for all scholars.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate as a member of the team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust/focus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of scholars.


MENTAL FUNCTIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate.
