Primary Purpose
Under general supervision, provide security and protection for students and staff. Dependent on assignment, security officers may be assigned to uniform patrol, campus security, or parking lot security.
Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must have a valid Texas driver's license
Education/Certification
High School Diploma required or GED
Two years of college preferred.
Must have Level II Security, Non-commissioned security guard certification or complete certification within 6 months of hire date.
Special Knowledge/Skills
Demonstrated ability to perform responsibilities with minimum supervision.
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant security equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective school security operations for protecting people, data, and property.
Demonstrated ability to deal sensitively and fairly with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to interface effectively (written / verbal) with students, parents, and all levels of district personnel.
Demonstrated ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.
Demonstrated organizational, prioritization, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.
Must be computer literate and/or willing to attend training sessions.
Experience
Experience working with youth preferred.
Background in law enforcement/security preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties
_____ 1. Provide prevention and detection of criminal activity and safety hazards; enforce traffic, parking, student code of conduct, and other district regulations.
_____ 2. Exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible, and serve as a role model for staff and the public.
_____ 3. Assist in restraining, apprehending, and/or escorting disruptive or arrested individuals.
_____ 4. Patrols all exterior and interior areas of the campus while ensuring direct interaction with students and district personnel within the assigned jurisdiction.
_____ 5. Write factual, clear, legible, and concise reports of unusual activities and criminal incidents occurring on or near the campus.
_____ 6. Resolve conflict or confrontation between students, district personnel, visitors or other persons on the assigned campus, and reports all incidents or criminal activity immediately to the supervisor.
_____ 7. Adheres to existing district and department grooming standards and dress policies at all times for uniformed personnel.
_____ 8. Screen and give directions to authorized visitors present on campus.
_____ 9. Monitor potential trouble areas such as hallways, lunchroom, and restrooms.
_____ 10. Attends all scheduled meetings as required by the supervisor.

Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Continuous walking and standing. Occasionally works outside and is exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather. May be required to control extreme physical acts of others (i.e., restraining students involved in altercations).
