Job Title: Drop Plow Operator (Fiber Optic Installation)About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Drop Plow Operator to join our outside team for Grand Lake Smart Wiring. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient installation of fiber optic drop cables from the distribution point to the customer premises. You will operate specialized vibratory plows and trenching equipment to ensure connectivity for residential and commercial clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate walk-behind or ride-on vibratory drop plows (e.g., Ditch Witch, Vermeer) to install fiber optic cable at required depths.
- Site Preparation: Review blueprints, site maps, and "811" utility locates to identify and avoid existing underground infrastructure (water, gas, electric).
- Cable Installation: Hand-dig as necessary to expose existing utilities and ensure a clear path for the plow.
- Restoration: Backfill trenches and restore the landscape (sod, soil, or gravel) to its original condition after installation.
- Maintenance: Perform daily pre-trip inspections and basic preventative maintenance on machinery and trailers.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all OSHA, DOT, and company safety regulations, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience operating vibratory plows or similar underground utility equipment.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret utility maps, staking sheets, and construction prints.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 75 lbs, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and perform repetitive physical tasks (bending, kneeling, digging).
- License: Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record (CDL Class A preferred but not always required).
- Soft Skills: Strong communication skills and a customer-service mindset when interacting with homeowners.
Benefits & Compensation
- Pay Range: $3000 to $4000 per week for a crew .
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, with occasional overtime/weekends depending on project load.
