What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Counselor position at Grand Lake Health System?
Hours of Job
FT - 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday
No weekends or holidays required
Duties and Key Responsibilities
Provide financial counseling and/or financial screening and education to the patient by way of phone calls and office and floor visits.
Reach out to uninsured and underinsured patients early in the process to screen for Charity Care and Medicaid eligibility.
Oversee & lead the HCAP and Financial Assistance Program according to 501R regulations and The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services rules and regulations. Review processes and policies annually.
Establish and monitor all payment plan workflows to ensure effectiveness and consistency. Oversee payment plans to ensure they are established according to current hospital policy.
Report trends to Patient Accounts Manager and Director of Reimbursement.
Oversee Self Pay Discount and Prompt Pay Discount policies. Ensure discounts are applied to accounts as requested.
Prepare statistical reports as requested by management.
In conjunction with Registration staff, educate patients on their liability, benefits, and set expectation for payment.
Lead the price estimation process and assist in product maintenance.
Maximize pre-service collections, especially on high dollar elective surgeries and procedures.
Requirements
Advanced computer skills required.
Knowledge of HCAP/Financial Assistance Programs, Medicaid application process, and Health Insurance Exchange desired.
Ability to interpret insurance benefits and effectively communicate this information to
patients and families.
Education/Certifications
Associate degree in business or related field required.
Ability to become a Certified Application Counselor (CAC).
Experience
Previous financial counseling and/or patient financial assistance experience.
