Job Summary

The Clinical Assistant at Grand Island Clinic supports the daily operations of the clinic by performing a variety of clinical and administrative responsibilities. This position provides direct patient care and assists healthcare professionals with examinations, procedures, care coordination, and other clinical activities while helping ensure efficient patient flow and an exceptional patient experience.

Essential Job Functions

• Greet and room patients while providing a welcoming and professional patient experience.

• Verify patient information and document vital signs, medical histories, chief complaints, and other pertinent information.

• Reconcile medications and update patient records within the electronic medical record system.

• Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.

• Assist healthcare providers during examinations and routine office procedures.

• Prepare and maintain examination rooms, equipment, and supplies.

• Ensure examination rooms are stocked, organized, clean, and ready for patient care.

• Accurately document patient care activities, provider instructions, and other required information in the electronic medical record.

• Schedule patient appointments and assist with coordinating follow-up care.

• Process referrals, prior authorizations, and other patient care coordination activities as assigned.

• Educate patients regarding provider instructions, treatments, testing, and follow-up care.

• Answer patient questions and appropriately direct clinical concerns to the provider or appropriate department.

• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, infection-control standards, and clinic policies.

• Participate in quality-improvement initiatives, training, and continuing-education activities.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Strong communication and customer-service skills.

• Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical workflows.

• Proficiency with electronic medical record systems and standard office software.

• Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.

Education and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Current Medication Aide, Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or other clinic-approved healthcare credential required.

• Basic Life Support certification required or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.

• Previous experience in a clinic or healthcare setting preferred.

Physical Demands

• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and moving between examination rooms.

• Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching.

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

• Ability to assist patients with mobility and positioning as needed.

• Visual and auditory ability necessary to effectively communicate with patients, providers, and coworkers.
