Endoscopy RN
POSITION SUMMARY:
Hourly position that reports to Endoscopy Supervisor. Previous Endoscopy experience preferred, but will train upon hire. ACLS certification required
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists Physicians in Endoscopy procedures.
- Delivers IV sedation under Physician direction
- Maintains certification in ACLS and BCLS
- Performs patient admission assessment to determine patient meets criteria for outpatient Endoscopy.
- Performs IV starts.
- Monitors patients vital signs throughout procedures and in post procedure recovery in accordance with AAAASF guidelines.
- Provide accurate documentation according to AAAASF guidelines
- Familiar with organization policies and procedures
- Knows the name, use and location of medications, supplies and equipment used in procedure room, recovery and scope reprocessing room.
- Understands the indications and contraindications for moderate sedation.
- Monitor patients undergoing moderate sedation, recognize and diagnose complications, and initiate interventions as directed by guidelines or the responsible physician.
- Identify all medications used for sedation and reversal, their pharmacology and potential side effects, and administration guidelines.
- Understand principles of respiratory physiology, oxygen delivery, airway assessment, and knowledge of airway equipment required for positive pressure ventilation.
- Assess patients before and after sedation, during the recovery phase, and implement appropriate discharge criteria.
- Assist with stocking and maintaining inventory for medications, medical supplies, and linens.
- Be familiar with endoscope cleaning process
- Help maintain endoscopy unit and crash cart
- Maintains Infection Control policies and procedures at all times.
- Ensures compliance with regulations and the facility’s standards of quality patient care.
- Handle and dispose of biomedical waste according to policies and procedures
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Perform related work as required.
- Circulate between prep, intra procedure and recovery roles and provide effective communication.
- Process and send pathology specimens to the lab
- Provide patient education pre and post procedure.
- Communicate physician instructions to patients
