Grand Design RV is currently sourcing an Assistant Payroll Manager to join our Team. As a Grand Design team member in this role, you will be responsible for leading the daytoday payroll operations while actively processing payroll alongside the team. This role ensures accurate, timely weekly payroll execution, maintains payroll coverage and attendance, and serves as the first level of leadership for payroll team members. The Assistant Payroll Manager ensures operational continuity and supports the Payroll Manager in executing payroll strategy and improvements.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Operational Payroll Processing (Lead & Process)

  • Oversee and personally process weekly payroll for over 2,400 employees across multiple production plants with GDRV and WTOW
  • Ensure accurate collection, review, approval, and retention of employee time and attendance records
  • Process employee pay changes, tax updates, deductions, leave usage, attendance programs, and corrections
  • Perform and lead weekly payroll audits to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Oversee check distribution and payroll postings

Team Leadership & Coverage

  • Serve as the daily leader for Payroll Processors
  • Assign work, prioritize deadlines, and always ensure payroll coverage
  • Monitor payroll team attendance and ensure backup coverage during absences
  • Provide training, guidance, and day‑to‑day support to payroll staff
  • Act as escalation point for complex payroll issues before involving the Payroll Manager

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare and review payroll reports (daily, weekly, monthly, annually)
  • Ensure proper filing and retention of payroll documentation
  • Support internal audits and payroll reconciliations

Collaboration & Support

  • Partner closely with Human Resources, supervisors, and managers to resolve payroll issues
  • Provide payroll guidance to employees and leaders
  • Participate in payroll system improvements and process enhancements
  • Support special projects as assigned by the Payroll Manager

 

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma required; Associate degree in Accounting or related field preferred or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of payroll processing experience in a high‑volume environment preferred
  • Experience with time and attendance systems and payroll systems required
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring others strongly preferred
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office required
  • Able to work independently as well as with a team
  • Experience working with a time and attendance system and payroll system a plus
  • Ability to effectively relate to people at all levels in the organization
  • Possess excellent time management skills to reach critical deadlines throughout the week
  • Keyboarding and 10-key
