The Opportunity

Operate cash register and electronic scanner to itemize and total customer purchases, process payments, and assist in bagging items. Responsible for providing friendly and courteous assistance to customers.

What You Get to Do

  • Practice courteous and friendly customer service consistently.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of product locations in the store.
  • Understand the proper use of check stand equipment, including the register, scanner, scale, and printers.
  • Execute and follow all financial transaction procedures, covering cash, checks, charges, credit cards, WIC, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons.
  • Familiarize yourself with and implement all current store programs, weekly specials, coupons, and ads.
  • Ensure proper vendor check-in according to store procedures.
  • Adhere to all policies regarding the sale of tobacco products and specific over-the-counter drugs.
  • Utilize correct cash handling procedures, maintaining an acceptable level of variance in the cash drawer.
  • Maintain a clean and safe checkout area.
  • Stock shelves and rotate products per stocking instructions when requested. Keep the checkout and front-end area clean by cleaning glass, floors, and shelves.
  • Handle any other projects and duties as assigned.
  • Must be dependable and well-organized.
  • Display a high level of maturity, discretion, tact, judgment, and the ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Be held accountable, to the highest degree, for the control, accuracy, and thoroughness of all expenses, records, and reports.
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned.

What Qualifies You

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience, previous customer service or retail store experience preferred.
  • Mille Lacs Band Member and American Indian preference will be exercised in the hiring process.

Must Have Skills

  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with changing priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulation.
  • Ability to effectively respond to questions from groups of Associates, managers, Guests, and the public. 
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, percentages, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to consult collaboratively to define problems collects data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and propose solutions.
  • Ability to interpret company policies and procedures and apply them in a consistent and fair manner. 

While performing the duties of this job, the Associate is regularly required to:

  • Talk and hear.
  • See and adjust focus to include close, distance, color, depth, and peripheral vision.
  • Stand, walk, run, sit, balance, stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Handle objects, tools, and controls; reach with arms and hands.
  • Must be able to lift or exert up to 70 pounds occasionally carrying bulk dog food, case cartons of milk or beverages, trash containers, etc. and moderate amounts of frequency.
  • Must be able to climb a ladder to retrieve items stored in elevated or overhead racks or shelves located above refrigerated boxes, in stockrooms and other storage areas.
  • Must be able to sweep and mop floors, dust and face shelves, and lift and carry out trash containers to be emptied in an outside bin.
  • Must be able to stock coolers and shelves and endure working under temperature extremes in refrigerated storage areas up to 20 minutes at a time.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to:

  • A low-to-moderate noise level (offices).
  • A moderate-to-loud noise level (operations areas).
  • At times may be exposed to outside weather conditions.
