Job Goal: To develop a love of learning in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM); to motivate students to engage in STEM content; to support students in developing skills to analyze and interpret data; to help students how to construct viable explanations; to plan opportunities for students to engage in arguments using appropriate evidence and to obtain, evaluate and communicate information effectively
Supervision: Reports to the Building Principal.
Education, Work Experience, and Licensure:
Required: Bachelor’s Degree
Prior experience as a Science Teacher
MA DESE Certified Acceptable CORI, SORI, DCF, and fingerprint report as determined by the Superintendent
Preferred: Master’s Degree
Primary certification in Middle School Science (5-8);
Technology/Engineering (5-12); Digital Literacy/Computer Science (5-12)
Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement.
Competency in use of current related educational technology.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and implement One 8 Science Curriculum
- Prepare and deliver instructional lessons and units with clear and measurable outcomes
- Implement a variety of instructional techniques to ensure student engagement and achievement.
- Develop a clear and consistent grading rubric for courses.
- Design and demonstrate differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students
- Keep accurate and appropriate grading and attendance records.
- Develop positive relationships with students, parents and families.
- Implement accommodations and curricular modifications as specified in educational plans (IEPs) and as needed to meet the learning needs of students
- Work within the Science Department to develop curriculum objectives and implementation strategies based on the learning - standards of the state curriculum frameworks.
- Use a variety of formal and informal assessments to accurately measure student progress toward and to modify further instruction.
- Integrate and apply relevant technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
- Evaluate each student's progress in science skills and understanding.
- Communicate with parents and counselors about the progress of individual students.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior.
- Use a computer and other technology to support student learning in and out of the classroom
- Provide students with support (remediation and enrichment) using a variety of strategies
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, lesson/unit and assessment design
- Effectively manage classroom operations.
- Accept supervision and guidance from evaluators, coaches and other support personnel.
- Set professional development goals, develop professional development plans, and participate in professional development activities that improve teaching practice
- Follow safety procedures and written and verbal instructions
- Displays understanding that expertise, experience, and safety in the laboratory is an important component of chemical education.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or administration
