Position Overview

The Warehouse & Fixed Asset Technician plays a critical role in the lifecycle management of district instructional materials and capital assets. This position ensures that the district’s warehouse operations run efficiently, inventory is accurately tracked and distributed, and fixed assets are managed in compliance with state and local policies—including surplus disposal and public auction processes. The technician supports campuses and departments by maintaining organized storage systems, coordinating deliveries, and safeguarding district property.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations – Instructional Materials

  • Receive, inspect, label, and store instructional materials (including textbooks, consumables, and ancillary classroom resources).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and accessible warehouse layout with accurate aisle mapping and inventory tracking.
  • Coordinate timely distribution of materials to campuses and district departments, including scheduled deliveries and pick-ups.
  • Track incoming/outgoing materials in inventory systems; reconcile discrepancies and maintain accurate counts.
  • Manage materials collection during mid-year changes, de-implementations, end-of-year processes, and summer transitions.
  • Communicate with campus contacts regarding shortages, overages, replacement needs, and shipment logistics.

Fixed Asset Management

  • Tag and catalog all fixed assets according to district guidelines and federal/state compliance requirements.
  • Conduct asset audits—including campus inventory checks and annual reconciliation processes.
  • Maintain detailed records of fixed assets, including status changes, repairs, transfers, surpluses, and final dispositions.

Surplus Property & Auctions

  • Coordinate surplus item processing, including equipment pickup, sorting, and secure storage.
  • Prepare assets for resale or disposal following district policies and Texas requirements.
  • Organize and support online or in-person auctions (photography, item descriptions, lot grouping, bidding oversight).
  • Process final disposition of assets, ensuring proper removal from district records.

Maintenance and Repair

  • Complete repairs as requested on work orders.
  • Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.
  • Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.
  • Hang pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required.
  • Performs any other duties assigned by the appropriate supervisor.

Customer Service & Collaboration

  • Serve as a district point of contact for campuses, vendors, and departments regarding textbook inventory and fixed asset processes.
  • Provide excellent service through timely follow-ups, problem-solving, and clear communication.
  • Collaborate with district finance and curriculum teams to manage records, timelines, and compliance.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain documentation for audits, TEA reporting requirements, procurement standards, and business office procedures.
  • Follow safety protocols for lifting, equipment operation, and warehouse access.
  • Ensure confidentiality and secure handling of district property and records.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment (e.g., pallet jack, forklift—certification may be required)
  • Ability to safely lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs)

Preferred

  • Experience in warehouse operations, school instructional materials, inventory control, or fixed asset management
  • Familiarity with asset tracking software or inventory systems
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record

Working Conditions

  • Primarily warehouse environment with exposure to seasonal temperatures
  • Continually walking, standing, standing, climbing, bending; stooping; kneeling.
  • Frequently move or carry objects up to 50 pounds,.
  • Operate light truck to transport furniture, instructional materials, and equipment throughout district.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Comfortable with technology and digital record systems
