PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide leadership and coordination for the middle school athletic program while teaching PE/Pre-Athletics. The coordinator will ensure a well-organized, developmentally appropriate program that prepares student-athletes for high school athletics and aligns with district goals and UIL guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned
Valid CDL or ability to obtain CDL within district timeline (required per district policy)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of the overall operations of an athletic program
Ability to manage personnel
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing athletics
Experience:
Three years of successful teaching and coaching experience
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Instructional Strategies
1.1 Coordinate all middle school athletic programs, schedules, and operations
1.2 Ensure that student progress is evaluated on a regular, systematic basis, and the findings are used to make the middle school program more effective.
1.3 Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support accomplishments of educational goals.
1.4 Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development.
1.5 Keep information related to practice time, schedules and workouts.
1.6 Coordinate girl’s middle school athletic programs with approval from the Athletic Director.
1.7 Schedule meetings with parents.
1.8 Be involved with all conflict resolutions that are not able to be handled by coaching staff of specific sports with the coordination and direction of the High School Girl’s Coordinator and Athletic Director.

2.8 Prepare all middle school schedules with the coordination of coaching staff.
2.9 Inventory middle school athletic program equipment and supplies.
2.10 Coordinate athletic facility use.
2.11 Document athletic incidents and coordinate with Athletic Director and Campus Principal.
2.12 Assign staff and coordinate facilities for any girls’ athletic events with Head Coaches of specific sports and Support Services.
3. Personnel Management
3.1 Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions with middle school coaches.
3.2 Evaluate job performance of middle school assistants of all girls’ sports to ensure effectiveness.
3.3 Make sound recommendations relative to personnel retention and promotion.
4. Administration and Fiscal
4.1 Direct and manage all aspects of the middle school program.
4.2 Ensure that the girls middle school program is cost effective and funds are managed prudently.
4.3 Compile budgets and costs estimates based upon documented program needs.
4.4 Implement the policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and the local board policy.
4.5 Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
4.6 Establish the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport and verify each athlete’s eligibility.
5.1 Develop professional skill appropriate to job assignments.
5.2 Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and serve as a role model for all district staff.
5.3 Attend seminars, clinics, and in services that are pertinent to job performance with approval of the Athletic Director.
6. School/Community Relations
6.1 Articulate the district’s mission and goals in the area of athletics to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
6.2 Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
6.3 Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent communication.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise and evaluate middle school coaching staff
Provide leadership, communication, and professional development
Supervise student-athletes at athletic events, bus rides, and locker rooms.
