The Role
A machine's body is only as capable as the mind that drives it. This role is for the engineers who breathe life into the hardware, teaching our Insectoid robot how to move, perceive, and act in the physical world. You will be responsible for creating the algorithms and software that form the robot's intelligence, from low-level motor skills to high-level reasoning.
This is an opportunity to solve foundational problems in AI and robotics on a novel morphology that has no precedent.You will work at the frontier of control theory, reinforcement learning, and computer vision to give our robot the ability to navigate and interact with complex, unstructured environments, creating the intelligent foundation for its ultimate mission.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement algorithms for complex, multi-agent coordination inspired by biological systems like ants,termites, and bees.
- Develop a decentralized communication and planning framework that allows a swarm of robots to collaborate on large-scale construction and manipulation tasks.
- Create systems for dynamic task allocation, allowing the fleet to adapt to changing environments and objectives.
- Build simulations to study and develop emergent behaviors that arise from simple, locally-enforced rules.
- Define and implement the initial coordination capabilities for small groups of 3-5 units, with a roadmap to scale to hundreds or thousands of agents.

Basic Qualifications:
- MS in Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field with 3 years of experience in multi-agent systems or swarm robotics.
- Expert proficiency in C and/or Python for developing and testing complex algorithms.
- A strong foundation in distributed systems and algorithms.
- Experience with multi-agent simulation environments and frameworks.
- A PhD with a focus on multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL), swarm intelligence, or algorithmic game theory.
- A track record of publications in top-tier robotics or AI conferences.
- Experience deploying multi-robot systems on real hardware.
- Expertise in optimization and graph theory.
