What are the responsibilities and job description for the District Behavior Specialist position at Grain Valley R-5 School District?
Purpose Statement
The role of the District Behavioral Specialist is to support both general and special education programs by promoting positive behavioral changes in students. Responsibilities include supervising Registered Behavior Technicians, providing staff training, participating in team meetings, assisting teachers, principals, and other staff with conducting functional behavioral assessments, and helping develop behavior intervention plans. The specialist also supports data collection, analyzes behavior-related data, and provides follow-up as needed.
Essential Functions
- Assists in developing procedures and training materials for district staff involved with students with challenging behaviors for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborates with staff in both the general education and special education environments for the purpose of providing support to the education process.
- Communicates and collaborates effectively (both orally and in writing) with teams for the purpose of discussing student progress on behavior issues.
- Conducts workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with students who demonstrate challenging behaviors.
- Coordinates and assists in developing and implementing Functional Behavioral Assessments/Behavioral Intervention plans for the purpose of supporting students.
- Maintains documentation and monitors the behavior data of students for the purpose of ensuring compliance with mandated policies, regulations and/or procedures.
- Monitors and determines needed services for the purpose of recognizing the need for prevention and involving others in the planning and delivery of prevention activities.
- Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops, and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
- Recommends available and appropriate learning resources and consults with teachers for the purpose of providing support on the appropriate use of those resources.
- Supports students and staff for the purpose of using positive behavioral supports and use of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention.
- Works independently, plans and organizes work, and maintains records
Experience: Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
Education: Board Certified Behavior Analyst Certification (License); Master’s Degree in related field are preferred
Certificates and Licenses: Missouri Special Education Teacher’s Certification and/or BCBA License required
