What are the responsibilities and job description for the 25/26 Bus Aide position at Grain Valley R-5 School District?
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for providing safe assistance during the transportation of students to and from school.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates specialized safety equipment on buses in relation to transportation of students with disabilities including; wheelchair lifts, wheelchair tie-downs, safety vests and car-seats
- Safely secures all wheel chair passengers using tie-downs in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Safely secures all students requiring safety vests and or car seats.
- Assists the Bus Driver in maintaining order and discipline among passengers on the bus in accordance with district policies related to disciplining students; prepares related reports as necessary.
- Determines appropriate action in emergency situations according to established guidelines; administers First Aid to passengers as needed.
- Operates, cares for, and cleans areas and equipment used in the transportation of students.
- Attends monthly in-service training to improve skills, attitudes and knowledge of transportation guidelines and student management.
- Demonstrate effective human relations and communications skills.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students
- Must be able to lift and carry 60lbs.
- Previous experience working with children is preferred.
- Successfully complete the training program provided by the district.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- 9 month position
- Reports to Director of Transportation
