Position Summary: The Weld Engineer reviews code requirements and customer specifications to convey fabrication and welding job requirements to Manufacturing. The Weld Engineer collaborates with Quality and Project Engineering to ensure quality and fabrication requirements align. Weld Engineer will manage multiple jobs and priorities, to ensure timely completion of planning activities for commercial engineered to order products.

Job Duties
- Analyze and optimize welding processes and procedures.
- Review customer specifications to define welding and manufacturing requirements.
- Develop and qualify Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Design and improve workflow layouts and work instructions for welding operations.
- Evaluate and select welding equipment.
- Troubleshoot welding defects and quality issues.
- Ensure compliance with welding codes and standards.
- Maintain accurate records to include welding procedures and welder qualifications.
Utilization of programs and personnel to supply project documentation as required
- Working from drawings, specifications, manuals, codes, etc., develops appropriate welding documentation to ensure compliance to Code, Contractual, and Jurisdictional requirements as required.
- Investigates special welding instructions to conform to Quality Assurance requirements.
- Consistently meets customer’s quality requirements and expectations.
- Identifies welding requirements and new welding requirements as required.
- Facilitates weld procedure development and determines required testing.
- Writes program procedures and addenda as required to meet order requirements
- Populate weld maps as required.
- Communicates with shop staff, QA/QC inspectors and engineering staff on a daily basis concerning activity requirements.
- Participates in non conformance reviews, corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Participates in customer meetings.
- Maintains a clean work area with no clutter.
- Practices safety at all times while at work.
- Follows safety policies and procedures and speaks up when others are non-compliant.
- Wears all safety equipment for area of work.
- Keeps an open mind to others continuous improvement suggestions
- Bring continuous improvement suggestions to the appropriate team member.
- Demonstrates initiative, positive attitude, and enthusiasm for the job
- Will follow up with supervisor on professional development goals and opportunities

To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required.
Education and Training
- Bachelor’s Degree in Weld Engineering or related field
- Associate’s Degree in Weld Engineering or related field plus 2 years’ experience
- 5 years of on the job experience in lieu of formal education.

- Must have proficiency in MS office applications including spreadsheet, enterprise resource planning, database, and specialized application software.
