Substitute

In the substitute role, you'll step into classrooms as needed, filling in for a Lead or Assistant Guide and keeping the day running the way the children expect it to. That means knowing the routine, following the plans already in place, and supporting the classroom's existing rhythm rather than reinventing it for a day. You'll be on-call as often as you can, and flexible about which classroom needs you depending on the day. No two weeks will look exactly the same, which is either your favorite thing about a job or a dealbreaker, and we'd love to know which one before you apply.

What We're Looking For

You don't need years of Montessori experience, but you do need to have spent time with young children and know how to connect with them and guide them. We need you to be steady, dependable, and genuinely good with young children (6 and under).

What matters most:

• Reliability. If we call, we need to know you'll either show up or tell us clearly that you can't

• Comfort stepping into a classroom you didn't set up and making it work anyway

• Patience and warmth with children, even on the days that test both

• Willingness to be outside in real weather, not just nice-day weather

• A team mindset. You're a meaningful and connected part of our community, not just clocking hours

What You'll Get

Real classroom experience across age groups and teaching styles, mentorship from the guides you support, and a foot in the door if you're considering Montessori education as a longer path. Many of our long-term staff started exactly here, especially if they're not sure which age group they want to work with yet.
