JOB SUMMARY:

As a Field Inspector II, you will ensure that contractors performing MARTA rapid rail and facilities projects comply with applicable building codes, regulations, contract specifications, and drawings through ongoing, regular inspections, usually in a specific area of assignment or expertise (i.e., architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, rail, etc.). In this role, you will also manage several projects simultaneously.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors on-site construction activities and verifies the quality of materials, workmanship, and products being provided and installed in accordance with the approved construction contract documents.
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain daily records of work activities, quantities used, and conditions at the job site.
  • Conduct inspections and site observations (as required) to document the quality of work being installed.
  • Reports documented work quality issues to the Quality Assurance Engineer and the Resident Engineer.
  • Redline's contract documents, as minor changes are being made in the field.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of project quality control plans. Recommends corrective/preventive action and implements the necessary action plan to correct deficiencies.
  • Assists the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer with reviewing and verifying monthly Payment Applications.
  • Attend job-related meetings as requested by the Resident Engineer or Supervisor.
  • Report any deviations to the Project Safety Engineer and Resident Engineer.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Associate Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related discipline. Work experience may substitute for preferred education based on the specific job requirements.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working on construction, remodeling, retrofitting, rail, or mass transit projects or projects within the general infrastructure environment, such as track maintenance, electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand contract specifications and drawings.
  • Must have knowledge, and understanding of engineering and architectural terminology specifically related to the mass transit and rail industry.
  • Ability to supervise the development of daily work records produced by L1, L2, and L3 Field Inspection Staff to ensure accurate records of work activities, quantities, and conditions of the job site are recorded and reported.
  • Must be proficient in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience in inspecting roadway construction and public utility relocation.
  • Must be familiar with building codes as required by the client.
  • Experience in inspecting electrical distribution, equipment installation, and testing.

LICENSURES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License required
  • OSHA 30 Certification preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Required to walk or stand for a minimum of 6 hours per shift.
  • Required to walk in rugged conditions.
  • Climbs ladders onto a roof 50 feet high or more, or climbs down a manhole as required.
  • Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lifts and/or moves equipment weighing 50 pounds and up to 125 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequently works in outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is often loud.
  • Must understand the Authority’s Red Tag, and wayside procedures.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to $35.00 per hour
