What are the responsibilities and job description for the CDL Class A Heavy Haul / Lowboy Driver position at Grady Excavating?
Grady Excavating, Inc. is seeking an experienced CDL Class A Heavy Haul / Lowboy Driver to join our team. We are looking for a professional driver with experience transporting heavy construction equipment safely and efficiently throughout Washington.
This is an union position covered by the Teamsters Local 174 Collective Bargaining Agreement. Successful applicants will become a dues paying member of Teamsters Local 174.
Job Responsibilities
- Safely transport excavators, dozers, loaders, compactors, and other heavy construction equipment.
- Load, secure, transport, and unload equipment using lowboy trailers.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and securement equipment.
- Properly secure oversized and overweight loads using chains, binders, straps, and other approved securement methods.
- Complete required DOT inspections, logs, and company paperwork.
- Coordinate deliveries with dispatch, project managers, and field personnel.
- Operate safely in accordance with FMCSA regulations, Washington State laws, and company safety policies.
- Maintain a clean, professional appearance and represent Grady Excavating with professionalism on every jobsite.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL)
- Current DOT Medical Certificate
- Minimum 2 years of heavy hauling experience
- Construction dump trucking experience
- Experience transporting heavy construction equipment
- Knowledge of proper cargo securement and oversized load requirements
- Clean driving record
- Strong commitment to safety and professionalism
Drug & Background Requirements
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing:
- DOT pre-employment drug screen
- DOT Clearinghouse query
- Background review
- Participation in the FMCSA-required random drug and alcohol testing program in accordance with 49 CFR Part 40, including post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing as required.
