Position Summary:
AchievePoint Career Academy’s Intervention Specialist has responsibilities different from those of a special education teacher at a traditional high school. Through blended learning instruction, the intervention specialist is expected to plan and implement a variety of learning experiences that allows students with disabilities to access grade-level curriculum while also targeting skill deficits academically and behaviorally. The teacher must evaluate and plan a differentiated curriculum and approach in order to allow all students to have access to all required subject areas required for graduation. The intervention specialist designs and delivers instruction that not only aligns with state standards but also with each student’s individualized education plan. The instructional support that an intervention specialist provides must support both facility-based learning and virtual learning. During on campus time, the intervention specialist will provide targeted instruction focused on literacy, numeracy, writing, and social and emotional development to assist the student in their success in courses as well as assist in their preparation for post-high school goals and career pathways. All teachers in the facility are responsible for monitoring student progress, pacing, and progress towards graduation as well as specific instructional responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
The intervention specialist is responsible for:
● Providing an educational program for students as defined by the students Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
● Working cooperatively with general education classroom teachers and other service providers, to modify the curriculum as necessary; and to assist with research-based and evidence- based interventions
● Utilizing appropriate assessment, data collection and progress monitoring methods to assess academic and social performance and to inform instruction and progress
● Communicating regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, behavioral, personal and adaptive needs of students.
● Complying with Federal and state model policies and procedures for the education of students with disabilities, completing all required reports and record keeping in accordance with timelines and deadlines, maintaining confidentiality of all students served
● Using effective classroom management techniques aligned with students individual needs
● Monitoring and approving student’s online work
● Assisting in planning and organizing all state tests
● Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Ideal intervention specialist will have experience working with students with disabilities and at-risk youth with varying levels of abilities and needs in a school based learning environment, in addition to:
● Ohio Teacher Certification in the area of Special Education with a focus on Mild/Moderate and/or Moderate to Intensive Disabilities
● Minimum BS or BA from a regionally accredited college or university
● Demonstrated ability and passion to work with struggling, at-risk students
● Demonstrated professionalism that displays effective judgment and professional integrity
● Demonstrated ability to function in a leadership and guiding role that enhances student achievement toward educational goals
● Highly organized and detail-oriented
● Working knowledge of web-based applications for online learning, including learning environments and web-based development tools.
● Positive attitude, grit and a desire to go above and beyond
