We are seeking a passionate and experienced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor to join our dynamic martial arts academy. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in martial arts, sports coaching, and teaching, with the ability to inspire students of all ages. This role involves developing training programs, instructing classes, and fostering a positive learning environment that promotes skill development, discipline, and confidence.
Jiu-jitsu experience is important—but your character matters more.
Duties
- Lead and instruct Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes for students under 15 yrs old
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during all training sessions and competitions
- Provide individualized coaching and feedback to help students improve their techniques
- Manage class behavior and maintain a positive, motivating atmosphere
- Assist in organizing tournaments, seminars, and community events
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate attendance and performance records
- Collaborate with other instructors to create a cohesive training curriculum
- Create an environment where kids feel seen, supported, and challenged
- Follow the Gracie Barra curriculum and teaching standards
- Maintain class control while keeping energy high and positive
- Communicate professionally with parents and team members
- Help students develop discipline, focus, and self-confidence on and off the mat
Skills
- Proven experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, with additional background in Karate, Judo, or other martial arts preferred
- Strong teaching abilities with experience working with students of all ages, including children and teens
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate diverse groups of learners
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques to foster discipline and respect in class
- Background in sports coaching or physical education is highly desirable
- Experience working in health clubs or gyms is a plus
- Familiarity with childcare practices is beneficial for instructing younger students
- Ability to demonstrate leadership in a team environment and manage multiple classes effectively
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience required (belt level flexible for the right person)
- Experience working with kids (martial arts, coaching, teaching, childcare, etc.) is a big plus
- Ability to pass background check
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Availability for afternoon/evening classes and occasional weekends
