POSITION SUMMARY
The Retail Manager is responsible for the daily management of store personnel, visual merchandising, customer service culture, and Point-of-Sale operations management. The Retail Manager recommends and implements pricing strategies, sales and promotions, merchandising ideas, process improvements, security policies, and ministry-wide communication efforts. Additionally, this position is responsible for setting goals that would lead to the store meeting the annual budgeted income levels needed by the organization.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Personnel
- Train, develop, and evaluate retail staff and volunteers.
- Schedule store staff to ensure supervision, breaks, and coverage for cash register and sales floor requirements.
- Coordinate hiring, probationary period, performance reviews, promotions, and other key personnel
decisions with the Director of Operations.
- Coordinate planning of activities, resources, and oversight of volunteers with the Volunteer Recruitment
Manager, store staff, and others.
- Implement any required safety protocols and make suggestions for any new initiatives.
- Facilitate communication with store staff about important GraceWorks-wide news, events, and policy changes.
- Contribute to a positive, encouraging, and empowering work environment.
- Lead the retail team in encouraging customers to support GraceWorks through the round-up transaction program.
Merchandise
- Ensure the store is fully stocked with season-appropriate, available merchandise.
- Coordinate the pickup of furniture for the store through customer communications and scheduling.
- Oversee development and maintenance of clear signage for the department, product category, and size information.
- Lead staff in ensuring merchandise is consistently displayed in an attractive and shoppable manner.
- Develop new sales initiatives and sustain and grow existing sales initiatives.
Store Facility
- Responsible for ensuring the store is open and operating safely during all scheduled store hours.
- Ensure an orderly, attractive, customer-friendly environment, and oversee daily cleanliness of the store.
- Make sure all sales and promotions are highly visible throughout the store and the rest of GraceWorks.
- Communicate with the Facilities Manager on any maintenance issues.
Point-of-Sale computer System
- Execute all policies concerning cash security and daily deposits.
- Become an “expert” on the POS system, skilled in all processes/troubleshooting, purchases, voids, and returns.
- Lead staff in the correct customer transaction procedures.
- Generate and interpret POS system reports.
Customer Service
- Treat all customers as Neighbors, an extension of the ministry, going beyond good customer service.
- Review and implement any changes in store policy needed to ensure maximum customer service.
- Be able to share the mission of GraceWorks with any customer.
- Problem-solve with flexibility, kindness, and common sense.
- Work with Neighbor Services to coordinate and facilitate the voucher system as needed.
Other
- Schedule includes some Saturdays and special events.
- Able to react to change productively and handle all other duties/essential tasks as assigned.
- Work as a team with other staff to share resources.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Management of the Sales Associates, Lead Cashiers, and Retail Assistant Manager.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree preferred. At least 4 years of related experience.

Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position is in a retail/warehouse setting that involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. May encounter hot working conditions, based on the season.
