In 2019, Grace Valley Church (www.gracevalleymemphisorg) began as a small gathering in the living room of our Lead Pastor. What started with a handful of faithful believers has, by God’s grace, grown into a thriving, Spirit-led congregation of over 1,200 in regular attendance—right in the heart of one of the most dynamic suburbs of Memphis, Tennessee.

As we enter an exciting season of growth and expanded ministry, we are prayerfully seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to help steward our mission and manage our organizational operations with excellence.
Position Summary
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational, financial, and administrative functions of the church. This role is vital in translating vision into action—ensuring that our systems, resources, and staff are aligned with our mission and values.
The COO will lead and manage multiple departments including Finance, Human Resources, Facilities, IT, Communications, and Administration, freeing the Senior Pastor and pastoral team to focus on spiritual leadership and ministry.
Reports To: Lead Pastor
Supervises: Managers of Finance, HR, Facilities, IT, Communications, and Administrative Support
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Organizational Leadership
● Collaborate with the Lead Pastor to implement and operationalize the church’s strategic vision.
● Develop and track measurable goals and objectives across departments.
● Build a culture of excellence, accountability, and Gospel alignment.
Financial Oversight
● Lead budgeting, financial planning, reporting, and forecasting.
● Ensure compliance with financial policies and nonprofit standards.
● Provide transparent financial updates to leadership and the church Elders.
Human Resources
● Oversee staff recruitment, onboarding, evaluations, and development.
● Manage compensation planning, conflict resolution, and staff culture.
● Maintain and update the employee handbook and HR policies.
Facilities & Operations
● Manage all aspects of building use, maintenance, safety, and vendor relationships.
● Ensure the church’s physical environment supports ministry growth and excellence.
● Develop scalable operational systems to support future expansion or multi-site initiatives.
Technology & Communications
● Supervise IT systems, livestream platforms, church management software, and digital infrastructure.
● Oversee internal and external communications strategy.
● Support online ministry and digital engagement initiatives.
Legal & Administrative Compliance
● Ensure the church remains in good standing with all federal, state, and local regulations (including 501(c)(3) compliance).
● Maintain accurate records for insurance, licenses, contracts, and governance.
● Coordinate with legal counsel as needed.
Qualifications
Education
● Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Organizational Leadership, or related field (required)
● MBA, MPA, or Master’s in Nonprofit Management (preferred)
● Theological training (M.Div., MA in Ministry, etc.) is a plus but not required
Experience
● 5–10 years of executive-level leadership in operations, preferably in a church or nonprofit setting
● Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and oversee complex systems
● Demonstrated success in financial management, HR leadership, and strategic planning
● Strong personal integrity, excellent communication skills, and a heart for ministry
