We are in search of an Applications Engineer to work on the products of tomorrow by conducting process evaluations for multi-national, domestic, and international customers.

Work Location: In person – Grand Junction, Colorado

Pay: $60,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year

Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Technical Writer to join our innovative technology team at GPD Global, Inc. In this role, you will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and managing technical documentation that supports manufacturing operations, product integrations, processes, and regulatory compliance. This role works closely with engineering, applications, assembly, quality, production, supply chain, material control, and regulatory teams to develop clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation including work instructions, manufacturing procedures, product specifications, test procedures, quality records, and customer-facing technical manuals.

The ideal candidate possesses strong technical writing skills, an understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear documentation for diverse audiences. Responsibilities:

• Create, maintain, and publish topic-based technical documentation for software and hardware products.
• Develop and update user guides, reference manuals, installation instructions, FAQs, how-to guides, tutorials, troubleshooting documentation, and release notes.
• Create and maintain online, web-based documentation and context-sensitive help systems, including search, indexing, and navigation to ensure fast and accurate information retrieval.
• Produce complete documentation packages for product releases and customer shipments, ensuring accuracy and on-time delivery.
• Collaborate closely with software developers, hardware engineers, product managers, and support personnel to learn product features, operation, architecture, and intended use.
• Gather information directly from subject matter experts through interviews, demonstrations, testing, and hands-on use of products.
• Organize, maintain, and improve internal and external documentation repositories.
• Establish and enforce documentation standards, templates, and publishing processes.
• Review documentation for technical accuracy, completeness, consistency, and usability.
• Manage documentation updates associated with product enhancements, bug fixes, and new releases.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience creating technical documentation for software, hardware, or integrated systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a wide range of audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with engineering teams and subject matter experts.
• Ability to quickly learn complex products and technologies through direct interaction with hardware and software development teams.
• Experience creating topic-based documentation and information architectures.
• Experience developing FAQs, tutorials, procedural guides, technical reference materials, online help systems, and web-based documentation.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously.
• Experience working with highly structured documentation content and maintaining consistency across large documentation sets.
• Ability to work independently and deliver documentation on schedule.
• Familiarity with documentation management systems, source control systems, and publishing tools.
• Experience working in an engineering, software development, or product development environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience documenting both hardware and software products.
• Knowledge of structured authoring methodologies such as DITA or similar topic-based documentation frameworks.
• Experience using structured authoring and publishing tools, including DITA Open Toolkit, Oxygen XML Editor, or comparable documentation authoring systems.
• Experience with version-controlled documentation workflows.
