Junior Accountant

Location: Cleveland, OH (In-Office)

Salary: $50,000 - $60,000

Position Overview

A premier, Am Law 200 law firm with a strong Midwest presence is seeking a Junior Accountant to join their legal accounting team in Cleveland. This role supports daily financial operations across General Accounting, Cash Applications, and Accounts Payable in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Daily Accounting Operations: Process, record, and maintain daily financial transactions-including accounts receivable, vendor invoices, and cash receipts-in compliance with firm policies.
• Accounts Payable & Disbursements: Review, code, and input vendor invoices with appropriate approvals. Prepare electronic payments and check runs under established internal controls.
• Reconciliations & Closing: Assist with bank, general ledger, and subsidiary ledger account reconciliations. Support month-end and year-end closing activities, journal entries, and financial schedules.
• Discrepancy Resolution: Research and resolve account variances, vendor inquiries, and internal accounting questions in a professional and timely manner.
• Recordkeeping & Backup Support: Maintain organized accounting files per record retention policies and cross-train across accounting functions to ensure team continuity.
  
  

Candidate Qualifications

• Education: Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred (with a solid foundation in basic accounting principles).
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a similar accounting role.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) required. Aderant legal accounting software experience is a strong plus.
• Core Competencies: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, high data entry accuracy, strict attention to confidentiality, and excellent written/verbal communication.
• Work Style: Organized, deadline-driven, and comfortable operating with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced cubicle environment.
  
  

Compensation & Culture

• Base Salary: $50,000 - $60,000 per year.
