5-Axis Mastercam CNC Programmer Responsibilities
The 5-Axis Mastercam CNC Programmer is responsible for programming operations and related activities, including support of employees, machines, and resources. Must be able to interpret and read drawings, have strong knowledge of machining practices and setups, and define and optimize tooling. This individual is a 5-Axis programming subject matter expert and collaborates with department staff while demonstrating the following:

5-Axis Mastercam CNC Programmer Responsibilities
The 5-Axis Mastercam CNC Programmer is responsible for programming operations and related activities, including support of employees, machines, and resources. Must be able to interpret and read drawings, have strong knowledge of machining practices and setups, and define and optimize tooling. This individual is a 5-Axis programming subject matter expert and collaborates with department staff while demonstrating the following:
- Maintain personal and team safety by following all company safety rules and regulations.
- Review work setups for potential hazards and ensure proper use of PPE and machining equipment.
- Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Develop and translate models into CNC programs using CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks).
- Validate models and verify CNC code accuracy prior to release.
- Create and maintain tool lists, setup sheets, and estimated run times for machinists.
- Modify and optimize existing CNC programs for improved efficiency and precision.
- Collaborate with machinists to fine-tune machine settings for optimal cutting performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered during machining operations.
- Monitor tooling inventory and coordinate with management on new tooling needs.
- Ensure all programs and setups meet production and quality standards.
- Uphold company quality expectations and customer requirements in all work performed.
- Learns and improves upon established practices and instructions to enhance departmental efficiency and productivity.
- 3-5 years of experience as a CNC Programmer in a job-shop environment, including machining and using Mastercam, with 2 years in a leadership role preferred.
- Proficient in CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam and SolidWorks, with a solid understanding of G-code, M-code, and core machining principles.
- Experienced with a variety of CNC equipment, including mills, lathes, and 3- to 5-axis machines-5-axis Programming mastery is a must!
- Skilled in using precision measuring tools and techniques to verify part accuracy and quality.
- Knowledgeable in tooling selection, inserts, feeds, speeds, and material removal rates across metals, composites, and plastics.
- Punctual and able to commit to a 40-hour work week, with occasional overtime available.
- Hardworking, reliable, and team oriented.
