What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machinist 2 (Day and Night Shift) position at GP&C?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to all engineering instruction, standard operation procedures, and all departmental procedures
- Able to perform machine set ups on manual lathes, manual mills, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and Waterjet machines for all programs and part types including production and/or engineering parts with light to no assistance
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations
- Performs preventative maintenance on machines as required per the company P.M. Program
- Attendance and Punctuality: Be at the workstation ready to start work at the beginning of the work period and remain on the job until the close of the work period. Be punctual for all appointments. In areas where required, each employee is also expected to remain on the job until a replacement is present
- Client/Customer Focus: Be respectful, courteous, and friendly to customers and GP&C employees
- Effective Teamwork: Be a team player and participate as an integral part of the GP&C team
- Ethic/Values/Integrity/Trust: Accept accountability for personal actions. Positively represent GP&C. It is expected that employees will conduct themselves with integrity and trust. Observe the laws, policies, and procedures that govern the activities of the workplace
- Assist other departments as necessary with approval from your management team
- All other duties as assigned
QUALIFITCATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED required
- 5 years’ experience working with Manual and/or CNC machines
- Solid written and verbal communication in English
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy and safety
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings for all processes and programs
- Must be proficient in math and be able to use handheld measuring tools
Knowledge of the following elements is expected:
- Machine Safety
- Job orders
- Standard measuring tools including, but not limited to, Micrometers (O.D. & I.D.), Calipers, Bore Gages, Protractors, Height Gages, Micro-Height Gages, Molds, Optical Comparator and Depth Gages
- Verifying gage calibration
- Machining fixturing for setups
- Familiarity with CNC programming/languages (G/M Codes and Mazatrol) and thorough knowledge of how to create and edit programs
- Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
- Willing and able to wear all appropriate PPE (i.e... Safety Glasses, Steel Toed Boots, Gloves etc.)
- Required to work in a shop environment which may include hot or cold temperatures, humidity, high noise levels and hazardous fluids such as coolants and lubricants
- Willing and able to machine and handle a wide variety of materials, including but not limited to, Fiberglass Composites, Plastics, Metals and other Alloys
- Regularly required to stand, reach, and move about the facility
