Job Summary:

The Construction Superintendent is the on-site leader responsible for managing the day-to-day field operations of federal construction projects, ensuring that work is performed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all project specifications and government requirements. The Superintendent is the primary field contact for subcontractors, vendors, and quality control personnel, and works closely with the Project Manager and government representatives to coordinate and supervise all construction activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all on-site construction activities and ensure work is executed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and federal agency standards (USACE, NAVFAC, VA, etc.).
  • Maintain daily site operations and enforce site safety, cleanliness, and compliance with OSHA and EM 385-1-1 standards.
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, field staff, and material deliveries to ensure efficient workflow and minimize project delays.
  • Participate in daily meetings and planning sessions with project teams, subcontractors, and government representatives.
  • Work closely with the Quality Control Manager to support inspections, testing, and documentation for the Three Phases of Control.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation including daily reports, labor and equipment logs, safety meetings, and field photos.
  • Monitor and enforce job site safety, including conducting daily safety briefings and ensuring corrective actions are taken for any deficiencies.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, delays, and potential conflicts through proactive planning and communication.
  • Manage project schedule updates and assist with sequencing of trades to keep construction activities on track.
  • Ensure all field changes are documented and communicated to the Project Manager for change management and contract compliance.

Basic Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, a related discipline, or relevant work experience
  • Must speak English
  • 10 years of construction, with at least 5 of them being a superintendent on similar projects /project size
  • EM 385-1-1 and experience in hazard identification & safety
  • Experience in interpreting critical path scheduling & drawings
  • Experience building high-rise residential, mixed-use, or higher education projects successfully from start to finish.
  • 2 years leading, developing, and motivating teams
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction process including scheduling, contract administration, equipment, and personnel
  • Demonstrated experience leading field operations and communicating plans effectively across multiple audiences
  • Working knowledge of applicable safety and building regulations (i.e., OSHA)

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to conditions that include weather such as heat and/or humidity and cold, fumes or airborne particles, exposure to dust and asphalt and moving mechanical parts. There may be occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Conditions can also include risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment can often be loud.

Salary : $80,000 - $95,000
