The Role

Nextgov/FCW, an award-winning digital publication of GovExec, leads the way in reporting on how advances in technology are transforming the way government agencies deliver services and perform vital functions. Nextgov/FCW seeks a reporter to provide coverage of emerging technologies in the federal government.

Relevant topics for coverage include artificial intelligence, quantum computing and other emerging technologies, as well as tracking how the administration and Congress address technology policy and paying attention to key officials and industry leaders. This reporter will cover key civilian agencies as well as the White House and Office of Management and Budget. The ideal candidate will be a sharp and driven writer who can track important stories and explain them to our audience. This individual will have an understanding of the federal landscape and policymaking and a keen eye for unique government technology stories.

Responsibilities

  • Writing breaking news stories and enterprise features for digital and print
  • Developing key sources and leveraging them to produce original reporting
  • Attending events, moderating panel discussions and conducting recorded interviews when necessary
  • Contributing to other editorial projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience
  • Experience covering technology issues or other relevant experience relating to covering the federal government
  • Strong writing and analytical skills and high attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly digest complicated information and produce stories on deadline

The compensation range for this role is $70,000 to $80,000 per year.
