Gourmet & Company is an independent, chef-driven restaurant in Johnson City, Tennessee, serving the region since 1989. We are looking for an experienced Sous Chef to work directly alongside our Executive Chef as second-in-command in the kitchen.
This is a hands-on position for someone who genuinely likes to cook. Our kitchen is from-scratch, seasonal and ingredient-driven, with longstanding relationships with local farmers and producers and our own small urban farm just minutes from the restaurant.
We're looking for a strong cook and leader—not someone who wants to manage the kitchen from an office. The Sous Chef works alongside the team in service and production, helps train and develop cooks, maintains standards, and shares responsibility for ordering, inventory, waste control, sanitation and day-to-day kitchen operations.
What we're looking for

- High standards for food, cleanliness and consistency
- The judgment and maturity to serve as second-in-command
- Culinary degree welcome, but not required
The position
- $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience
- Full-time salaried position
- Five-day workweek
- Restaurant closed Sundays and Mondays
- Typical schedule approximately 10 a.m.–9 p.m.
- Work directly with the Executive Chef
